Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he will not cling to power and is ready to do everything to hand it over to a new generation peacefully and peacefully.
Lukashenko made the announcement during a visit to a church in Logoisk, BelTA reports.
At the same time, he expressed hope that he would be able to live under the new government.
“I want to see how my children will live,” Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian president added that he is not trying to retain power by force.
The next presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for January 26, 2025.
Five people are running for office, including Lukashenko, who has been president of the republic since 1994 and is seeking a seventh term.
Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko announced his readiness to involve the military in the event of unrest during the elections in Belarus.
“If necessary, use the police, and if necessary, the military to restore order,” the Belarusian president said at a meeting with governors.
According to the Belarussian leader, attempts are being made to exert pressure from outside on members of election commissions in Belarus.
