President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, accompanied by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, paid a visit to the Technopark in Tashkent, where they were presented with a wide array of high-tech products on February 8, Uzbekistan's presidential press service reported.
The Technopark showcased range of products, including household appliances, electronic counters, elevators, escalators, pumps, industrial boilers, and cooling systems, all manufactured by enterprises within the complex.
The products manufactured at the Technopark are produced under foreign brands and supervision, meeting stringent quality standards. They enjoy significant demand both domestically and internationally, with exports reaching 10 countries worldwide.
During the visit, both presidents underscored the importance of expanding cooperation among leading enterprises, fostering the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and facilitating the transfer of cutting-edge technologies.
Uzbekistan and Belarus relations
Belarus stands as one of Uzbekistan's top 20 significant trading partners, with the bilateral trade relationship witnessing a notable upswing in recent years. Between 2017 and 2023, the trade turnover between the two countries experienced a remarkable 3.4-fold increase, reaching $620.1 mn. During this period, Uzbekistan's exports to Belarus surged by 4.3 times, totaling $119 mn, while imports from Belarus grew by 3.2 times, amounting to $501.1 mn.
The trade dynamics predominantly consist of finished products from the manufacturing sector. In 2023, Uzbekistan's exports to Belarus encompassed a diverse range of goods, including 37% finished clothing, 18% various fabrics and yarn, 17% fruits, vegetables, and food products, 7% electrical goods, and 5% various finished products, among others.
Similarly, imports from Belarus exhibited a varied composition, comprising 25% timber (including chipboard), 17% meat products, 16% tractors and motor vehicle parts, 7% dairy products, 6% various finished goods, and 5% food products, among other categories.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus engaged in substantial talks on February 8, accompanied by their official delegations. During these discussions, President Mirziyoyev suggested the establishment of a production facility in Uzbekistan for Belarusian BelAZ mining equipment.
