President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in an informal gathering of the heads of state from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 25.
The meeting, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, brought together regional leaders, including President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the discussions, participants reviewed the outcomes of their collaborative efforts in 2024 and identified priority areas for multilateral cooperation in the coming year. A key focus was placed on enhancing intra-regional trade by addressing barriers to mutual trade and fostering deeper economic integration.
The leaders also explored opportunities to strengthen partnerships in emerging sectors such as engineering education, Internet technologies, big data, the creative economy, green energy, and peaceful nuclear energy. The development and implementation of digital solutions were highlighted as a shared priority.
In addition, the summit addressed pressing regional and global issues, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts to combat common challenges and threats. Enhancing practical cooperation within the CIS framework to ensure regional security and stability was a central theme.
