President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus held significant discussions, along with their respective official delegations, on February 8. President Mirziyoyev has proposed the localization of Belarusian BelAZ mining equipment production in Uzbekistan during bilateral discussions with President Lukashenko. The Telegram channel "Pool of the First," a close source to Lukashenko’s press service, reported on this significant development.
At the meeting, President Lukashenko suggested the establishment of a comprehensive service center to cater to products from BelAZ, MAZ, and MTZ "under one roof" in Tashkent or other Uzbek cities.
Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of Belarusian machinery in Uzbekistan, noting that half of the republic's ten tractors are sourced from Belarus. He instructed Laziz Kudratov, head of the MIIT, to document Lukashenko's proposal.
Lukashenko expressed agreement with Mirziyoyev's proposition, highlighting advancements in negotiations concerning Belshina, a tire manufacturer.
The Telegram channel "Pool of the First" further reported that both nations have reached an agreement on the joint production of Belarusian BelAZ mining equipment in Uzbekistan.
The move comes amidst economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus, with both countries previously announcing plans to implement projects worth $1 bn.
In March 2023, the United States imposed sanctions against Belarusian companies BelAZ and MAZ, citing their ties to the Belarusian authorities and their actions perceived to align with their interests.
