The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has updated its world rankings at the end of December 2024, with five Uzbek grandmasters securing spots in the top 100.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who holds a rating of 2768, maintained his 6th place position. However, his rating dropped 9 points. As Abdusattorov turns 21 this year, he has moved out of the youth rankings, a category he had led for several months.
Other Uzbek players rankings:
- Javohir Sindorov made significant progress, rising to 37th place from 46th last month, with a rating of 2692.
- Rustam Qosimjonov, an experienced grandmaster, also made the top 100, securing 45th place with a rating of 2683.
- Shamsiddin Vohidov improved his ranking, moving to 52nd place from 62nd, with a rating of 2670.
- Nodirbek Yakubboyev slipped from 62nd to 67th place, with a rating of 2659.
With Abdusattorov leaving the youth rankings, Sindorov now leads the youth category. Mukhrriddin Madaminov holds 31st place, while Muhammadzokhid Suyarov is ranked 68th.
In other news, the World Chess Championships for Rapid and Blitz formats were held in New York. In the Rapid event, 18-year-old Volodar Murzin from Russia, rated 2588, claimed the world title. Sindorov finished in 6th place, and Abdusattorov placed in the top 30.
In the Blitz competition, Uzbek players were unable to advance to the playoffs and were eliminated early.
