Uzbekistan's rising chess star, Umida Omonova, clinched the championship title at the Asian Blitz Championship for youth and teenagers, currently underway in the United Arab Emirates. The Chess Federation's press service relayed the news, celebrating Omonova's remarkable performance in the prestigious tournament.
Omonova, competing in the G-18 category, secured her victory by amassing an impressive 8½ points in nine rounds of play. Her exceptional achievement stood out among 31 participants hailing from 14 countries, showcasing not only her individual prowess but also Uzbekistan's growing influence on the international chess stage.
The Uzbek chess sensation was not the sole representative of her nation to shine in the competition. Davron Sharipov from Uzbekistan secured the second position, while Malikahon Dzhumaeva and Khusnorahon Khusnitdinova rounded out the top three spots, further underscoring Uzbekistan's prowess in the tournament.
This success follows the recent achievement of Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who claimed a spot in the top three at the prestigious super tournament, Champions Chess Tour Finals 2023. Despite finishing third, Abdusattorov's exceptional performance underscored the caliber of chess talent emerging from Uzbekistan.
