Chess prodigy Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan, enters Top 15 in FIDE Rankings
In a remarkable feat for Uzbekistan and a historic achievement for the nation's chess scene, grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov, at the age of 19, has ascended to the ranks of the top 15 best chess players globally in the January FIDE (International Chess Federation) rankings.
Abdusattorov's meteoric rise saw him climb from the 22nd position to the prestigious 15th place within a single month. His Elo rating, a standard measure of a player's strength, surged from 2727 to an impressive 2744. Notably, this elevation establishes Abdusattorov as the first chess player in Uzbekistan's history to attain such a high rating.
The previous record was held by Rustam Kasimzhanov, the 17th world chess champion, who achieved a maximum rating of 2715 in May 2015 but reached the 11th position in the rankings.
In January, Abdusattorov showcased his exceptional skills at the Tata Steel Chess super tournament, competing against elite chess players. Over 13 rounds, he secured six victories, drew five times, and experienced two defeats.
Another rising talent from Uzbekistan, 18-year-old Javohir Sindarov, made impressive strides by climbing to the 35th position in the world with a commendable rating of 2701, despite not participating in official games during the past month.
Rustam Kasimdzhanov, with a rating of 2687, currently holds the 47th position, down from 49th in the previous month, although his rating decreased by just one point.
Nodirbek Yakubboev, the 20-year-old Chess Olympiad champion, faced a slight dip to the 76th position (-1) with a rating of 2661. This shift is attributed to his inactivity in official games during the period.
Earlier Daryo reported that Magnus Carlsen, the prodigious chess player from Norway, demonstrated his exceptional skills by securing triumph in the World Rapid Chess Championship hosted in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from December 26-28. This notable accomplishment marked Carlsen's fifth championship victory in the tournament, adding to his previous wins in 2014, 2015, 2019, and 2022.
