Wijk aan Zee, also known as the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, stands as one of the oldest and strongest chess tournaments globally, with a legacy dating back to 1938. Over the years, it has seen the participation of all world champions except Vasily Smyslov and Robert Fischer.

This year, the tournament will miss the participation of eight-time winner Magnus Carlsen, as his busy schedule prevented his involvement. However, the competition welcomes back the current world champion, Ding Liren, after an extended hiatus from major tournaments. Ding Liren leads the Tata Steel Masters' participants in terms of rating.
