In a recent meeting, the president of Uzbekistan was briefed on the key priorities for the country's preschool and school education systems for the year 2025. Emphasizing the importance of education as the foundation of personal development, the Head of State outlined ongoing efforts to enhance the sector and ensure it meets modern requirements.
Over the past few years, strides have been made in both preschool and school education. The number of kindergartens has increased dramatically, rising 8-fold to 38,000, with enrollment coverage jumping from 27% to 76%. Meanwhile, school education has evolved into a nationwide movement, with over 5,000 schools undergoing construction and renovation over the past seven years, including 608 schools this year.
The Minister of Preschool and School Education provided details on plans for the upcoming year. More than 100 new schools are set to be built, offering space for 257,000 students. Additionally, the number of schools teaching a second foreign language will increase to 420, while 400 schools will focus on vocational education. As part of efforts to align the education system with international standards, the state education program will also undergo updates.
One of the most notable changes in the education system is the introduction of new assessment methods. This year, 1,500 secondary schools adopted a modern evaluation system, and based on the results, this experiment will expand further in the coming years. Additionally, a new digital platform will be introduced to reward teachers for advancing their qualifications, with bonuses of up to 70% based on earned points.
To further enhance teaching quality, the Head of State emphasized the importance of refining the qualification exam process and creating a competitive environment for teachers. Starting next year, regional training centers will implement a differentiated training system tailored to the specific needs of each educator. Furthermore, five Pedagogical Skills Centers will open across the regions, offering advanced learning techniques and virtual laboratories.
Another major initiative is the financial support for school and kindergarten directors, who will be provided additional resources to incentivize their leadership and enhance the quality of education in their institutions.
Additionally, the president highlighted the need to improve the training system for students before conscription. In response, military patriotism lessons will be extended in upper grades, and a procedure for awarding military titles to teachers in this area will be introduced. Schools offering this curriculum will also be established in 208 educational institutions. These "Schools of Courage" will include students with difficult upbringings to provide them with further support.
A key milestone in preschool education will be the creation of deputy director positions at preschool organizations, starting in 2025. Furthermore, 162 new preschool institutions will be built, and 100 private and 1,000 family kindergartens will open, raising preschool education coverage to 78%. The alignment of primary school curricula with school preparatory groups will also be strengthened.
The president reiterated the need for continued development in all regions, with a particular focus on improving educational quality in remote districts.
