From June 1, Uzbekistan will introduce a new residence permit scheme, according to a report by the Ministry of Justice, referencing a presidential decree. The initiative aims to attract foreign nationals and stateless persons by offering a simplified five-year residency process in exchange for a financial contribution.
The visa, which will allow holders to live and work in Uzbekistan, requires a payment of $200,000 for the primary applicant. Additional costs of $100,000 per family member—such as a spouse, children, and parents—will also apply.
The measure, introduced by presidential decree and announced by the Ministry of Justice, is part of Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and skilled individuals. The simplified procedure will allow eligible applicants to obtain long-term residency without going through the standard, more complex process.
In addition to the visa scheme, the decree also abolishes the excise tax on white sugar imports starting October 1, 2025. This exemption will apply to white sugar that is imported without flavoring or coloring additives and is expected to help lower costs for businesses and consumers alike.
While the decree does not officially use the term “golden visa,” the new initiative closely resembles similar residence-by-investment programs implemented in other countries, offering long-term residency in exchange for substantial financial contributions.
