Kyrgyzstan takes step to boost agricultural exports with GLOBALG.A.P. approval

Kyrgyzstan takes step to boost agricultural exports with GLOBALG.A.P. approval

Kyrgyzstan has achieved a milestone in enhancing its agricultural export potential with the approval of the National Interpretation Document (NID) for GLOBALG.A.P. version 6. This decision directly impacts the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, enabling Kyrgyz producers to meet international quality and safety standards and strengthen their global market presence.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat’s endorsement of the NID underscores the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, national business representatives, industry associations, and international experts. This achievement was made possible with technical support from the UNDP Aid for Trade Project, funded by the Government of Finland.

The approval of the NID aligns with the goals outlined in the Kyrgyz Republic’s National Development Program through 2026 and supports the implementation of the presidential decree on measures for the further development of the agro-industrial complex. These initiatives aim to modernize Kyrgyzstan's agro-industrial sector, enhance its competitiveness, and ensure that local products meet the stringent standards required for international trade.

Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating:

“The development and approval of the National Interpretation Document for GLOBALG.A.P. are the result of our sustained efforts to create favorable conditions for Kyrgyz agricultural products to access global markets. This document is a valuable tool for helping producers improve quality and competitiveness. With the support of our development partners, the Ministry will continue working to promote high-quality agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan abroad.”

The NID tailors GLOBALG.A.P.’s international standards to Kyrgyzstan’s specific agro-climatic, technological, and regulatory conditions. By localizing these requirements, the NID ensures they are practical and accessible for farmers and exporters, encouraging the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices while broadening access to international markets.

“The adoption of this document marks a crucial step in integrating Kyrgyz agro-producers into international markets,” Alexandra Solovieva, UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan voiced. “It opens the door to more profitable market segments and contributes to sustainable economic growth through the development of efficient value chains. UNDP remains committed to supporting Kyrgyzstan in building a modern, competitive agro-industrial sector.”

With the NID’s implementation, Kyrgyz producers can enhance their credibility in the global market, improving their competitiveness and meeting international quality standards. By making compliance more understandable and achievable for local farmers, the document ensures that sustainable and practical agricultural practices are adopted, ultimately boosting the country's export capacity.
