The Koraozak Technical School of Agroeconomics in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, celebrated the inauguration of its newly renovated facilities, marking a milestone in the project "Skills Development for Employability in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan," EEAS reported. This initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNESCO, aims to enhance vocational education and training (TVET) in the agriculture sector.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Koraozak Technical School of Agroeconomics, saw distinguished guests including Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, Sara Noshadi, UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan, and Utkir Alijonov, Head of Department for Developing Professional Education at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations. Government officials, college staff, students, and community members also attended the event.
The renovated college premises, covering an area of 1423 square meters, have undergone extensive improvements funded by the European Union. These enhancements include modernized workshops, classrooms, and laboratories, equipped with resources to support practical training components across 15 specialized qualifications.
In his address, Utkir Alijonov highlighted the alignment of educational standards with European benchmarks, underscoring the collaborative effort between local and international partners. Charlotte Adriaen expressed her enthusiasm for witnessing the tangible outcomes of the EU-funded project, emphasizing its role in promoting skills development, youth empowerment, and local development in Uzbekistan.
“This visit is another sign of the EU's engagement for skills development, youth empowerment, and local development in Uzbekistan, and I am proud to see the impressive transformation of the facilities and the vibrant atmosphere amongst the teachers and students that the project has facilitated,” Charlotte Adriaen voiced.
Sara Noshadi reiterated UNESCO's commitment to sustainable impact, emphasizing the importance of systemic support and policy frameworks in ensuring the success of TVET initiatives. Since 2020, UNESCO, with EU financing, has been actively involved in TVET strategy development in Uzbekistan, focusing on governance reform, qualification modernization, and increasing access to quality vocational education.
The project aims to enhance employability for both men and women, particularly youth, by equipping them with skills aligned with the evolving demands of Uzbekistan's agriculture and irrigation sector. Through collaborative efforts, the initiative seeks to contribute to the sustainable development of rural communities, ultimately improving living standards and fostering economic growth in the region.
