President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan welcomed a delegation from the National People's Congress of China, led by Chairman Zhao Leji, on July 8.
Chairman Zhao Leji conveyed warm regards from President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, emphasizing the deep satisfaction with the highest level of Uzbek-Chinese friendship achieved in recent years. The meeting highlighted the ongoing implementation of agreements from President Mirziyoyev's state visit to China earlier this year, showcasing the commitment to bilateral cooperation.
At the forefront of discussions were the outcomes of the SCO summit in Astana, which are expected to inject new vigor into the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and China. China reiterated its steadfast support for Uzbekistan's socio-economic reform initiatives, particularly in poverty reduction, and outlined plans for strategic cooperation in infrastructure development, industrial collaboration, agriculture, and green energy sectors.
A pivotal agenda item was the commencement of practical work on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. The upcoming second Forum of Regions will further enhance interregional ties between the two countries, fostering deeper economic engagement and cultural exchange.
Education emerged as a key area of collaboration, with discussions on establishing branches of Chinese universities in Uzbekistan, expanding vocational education programs, and supporting the activities of the Confucius Institute. Both sides agreed to host the second Educational Forum next year to bolster educational exchanges.
Cultural and tourist exchanges were also highlighted, reflecting mutual interest in promoting people-to-people ties and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of both nations. The importance of expanding inter-parliamentary interaction and exchanging legislative best practices to support ongoing reforms was underscored. Plans are underway to develop a road map aimed at deepening cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and China.
