President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan met with Tan Sri Tengku M. Taufik, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian company Petronas, during an official visit to Malaysia, on December 19.
The meeting focused on key areas of cooperation, the current state of bilateral projects, and potential future collaborations. Discussions highlighted Petronas’ contributions to Turkmenistan's energy sector over nearly three decades, particularly in hydrocarbon extraction and training skilled professionals for the oil and gas industry.
Both sides explored opportunities to expand their partnership in new areas, considering Turkmenistan's economic development programs, ongoing industrial reforms, and business-friendly environment.
The Petronas leadership acknowledged past visits by Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia and expressed gratitude for the conditions enabling the company’s successful operations in Turkmenistan. They also expressed optimism about continuing mutually beneficial cooperation.
The meeting took place at the Skybridge connecting the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, where the Turkmen delegation was briefed on the building's history and features.
Meeting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport
Following the discussions with Petronas, President Berdimuhamedov proceeded to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where he met with an official representative of Malaysia. Both sides noted the steady expansion of cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. The Malaysian representative presented the President with a publication documenting high-level mutual visits and congratulated him on the successful conclusion of his official trip.
President Berdimuhamedov expressed his appreciation for the gift and the warm reception.
The President of Turkmenistan has since returned to Ashgabat, concluding the official visit to Malaysia.
Earlier Daryo reported that Uzbekistan plans to undertake two major gas processing projects in partnership with Petronas, according to Laziz Kudratov, the country's Minister of MIIT.
