EU-funded renovation transforms Gijduvon Technical School of Agro Technologies in Bukhara, Uzbekistan

The Gijduvon Technical School of Agro Technologies in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, recently unveiled its newly renovated facilities, thanks to the generous financial support from the European Union, EEAS reported. This momentous occasion, celebrated in collaboration with the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan, marks a milestone in the Skills Development for Employability in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan project.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by representatives from the European Union, UNESCO, local government officials, faculty, students, and community members, showcased the extensive enhancements made to the college's infrastructure. Visitors were given a comprehensive tour of the upgraded premises, providing firsthand insight into the modernization efforts undertaken.

The Gijduvon Technical School of Agro Technologies has long been dedicated to providing vocational education to rural youth, and with the support of the European Union, UNESCO has revitalized the college across 1105 square meters. The renovations encompass workshops, classrooms, and laboratories, incorporating modern amenities such as new flooring, ceilings, lighting, and state-of-the-art equipment including agricultural machinery, greenhouses, and refrigeration units.

These enhancements not only elevate the learning environment but also enhance practical training opportunities for students, aligning with the school's mission to prepare them for careers in the agriculture and irrigation sectors.

Since 2020, UNESCO, backed by EU funding, has been spearheading Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives in Uzbekistan, focusing on governance reform, qualification modernization, and expanding access to quality education in rural areas. The project aims to improve employability, particularly among youth, by equipping them with the skills needed to support the country's agricultural and irrigation sectors in their transition to sustainability and modernization.

Recently, the Koraozak Technical School of Agroeconomics in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, also celebrated the completion of its renovated facilities, marking a significant achievement within the "Skills Development for Employability in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan" project. This endeavor, supported financially by the European Union and executed by UNESCO, is focused on elevating vocational education and training (TVET) within the agricultural sector.

The revamped college premises, spanning 1423 square meters, have undergone extensive upgrades sponsored by the European Union. These improvements encompass modernized workshops, classrooms, and laboratories, all equipped with the necessary resources to facilitate practical training across 15 specialized qualifications.
