In an inspiring speech on August 5, Saida Mirziyoyeva, assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, delved into the rich history of the Jadid and Alash movements, highlighting their shared vision of liberation and progress for their nations. At the dawn of the 20th century, both movements sought to emancipate their peoples and elevate their countries to prosperity.
Mirziyoyeva eloquently expressed the dreams and challenges faced by these movements, stating:
“They all dreamed of a progressive society. Our intelligentsia deeply understood the reasons why the region was lagging behind the rest of the world. But they were not allowed to implement their plans.”
Mirziyoyeva emphasized the enduring significance of these historical movements and the current efforts to continue their legacy. She highlighted the pivotal role of contemporary political leadership in reviving and actualizing the aspirations of the past:
“Generations have changed, but only now, thanks to the political will of the leader of our country, we have raised the fallen flag of the Jadids, who, like your representatives of the Alash movement, are an example for progressive youth. We are starting to implement their ideas and raise enlightenment and education to the level they dreamed of!"
The Jadid movement, originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, aimed at educational and cultural reform within the Muslim communities of the Russian Empire, particularly in Central Asia. Similarly, the Alash movement in Kazakhstan sought to achieve political, cultural, and social reforms to modernize Kazakh society. Both movements were curtailed by political constraints of their time but left a lasting intellectual legacy.
Mirziyoyeva also talked about the importance of the Zakovat club as a contemporary symbol of intellectual development and cultural exchange between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The Zakovat club, known for its intellectual competitions and gatherings, serves as a platform for fostering knowledge and camaraderie among the youth of both nations. Mirziyoyeva remarked:
"That is why today we honor you - the participants of the Zakovat club from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. This is not just a game, it is a movement that inspires young people to reach new heights."
The Zakovat club embodies the spirit of enlightenment and education championed by the Jadid and Alash movements. Through intellectual challenges and cultural exchanges, it nurtures a new generation of thinkers and leaders who are equipped to advance the socio-economic and cultural development of their nations.
