The president of Uzbekistan has reviewed a new draft resolution aimed at advancing the country’s fine and applied arts sector, with a strong focus on expanding opportunities for youth passionate about art.

For years, the field had remained underfunded and overlooked. But during a recent expanded meeting of the Republican Council for Spirituality and Enlightenment, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the need to reinvigorate the arts and instructed officials to take concrete steps.
As part of the 2026–2027 investment program, the government plans to reconstruct the Central Exhibition Hall and the Art Fund building of the Academy of Arts. A new Multimedia Center will also be established at the Tashkent House of Photography.
A major component of the initiative is support for aspiring young artists. A Young Artists Center will be created on the Art Fund's premises, featuring a modern gallery and 40 creative studios. An educational and production workshop will also be opened at the Museum of Oriental Miniature Art.
Further developments include the renovation of the Benkov Art School, alongside the construction of a new academic building for 400 students and a dormitory for 200 residents.

Veteran artists involved in mentoring young talent under the "teacher-student" tradition will receive increased recognition and support. Meanwhile, each year the most promising artists will be sent abroad to gain international experience through competitive programs.
Educational reforms are also underway. The Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Art and Design is introducing international curricula to enhance academic quality. The artistic works of its professors will now be recognized on par with scientific monographs. Graduates of the institute will be allowed to teach fine arts in schools, expanding professional pathways for young artists.
Additionally, a new state-supported system will commission artworks in thematic series such as Landscapes of New Uzbekistan, Historical Scholars, and Heroes of the Time.
The president stressed the importance of improving working conditions for regional artists and creating more opportunities for youth to engage with fine and applied arts, stressing the sector’s role in cultural identity and spiritual development.
