Uzbekistan’s youth have achieved a milestone in academic excellence, ranking first in Central Asia last year for admissions to the world’s top 500 universities. The announcement was made by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a Youth Day celebration on June 30, where he congratulated the country’s young generation and highlighted their growing role in shaping a “New Uzbekistan.”

According to the president, for the first time in history, Uzbek students gained admission to the world’s top five universities—marking a historic achievement. Today, 30 young Uzbeks are studying in the top 10 universities globally, 500 in the top 100, and 1,500 in the top 300.
“These are the results of the long-term efforts we launched at the beginning of our reforms—creating the chain of ‘science–education–innovation’—and we are now witnessing its clear outcomes,” President Mirziyoyev said.

The president emphasized the state's commitment to empowering youth with quality education, access to modern professions, and opportunities to thrive both nationally and globally.
“Until recently, it was hard to imagine that children from ordinary families, raised in the cotton fields, would reach such heights in science, sports, and other fields. We created the conditions, and our youth are making the most of them,” he said.

Mirziyoyev praised the youth as the “golden generation” of New Uzbekistan, capable of leading the country into a new era of development and innovation.
“Just as the first and second Renaissances were led by our great scholars and thinkers, now it is your turn to make history,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of peace, justice, and education amid a rapidly changing and increasingly unstable world.
“A nation that nurtures highly educated, open-minded, and tech-savvy youth will always be strong in peace, development, and solidarity,” the president noted.
