In a video message to participants of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the pivotal role of cultural and humanitarian cooperation in fostering unity among member nations, Kremlin reports.
The meeting, focusing on enhancing ties in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, emphasized the importance of preserving the rich civilizational fusion of traditions, languages, and arts shared by the peoples within the CIS. President Putin stressed that this shared heritage serves as the solid foundation for the ongoing integration processes.
Russia, set to assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth on January 1, 2024, expressed its commitment to organizing joint events across various artistic, educational, and scientific domains. The utilization of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation will play a crucial role in facilitating film projects, music competitions, and collaborative initiatives.
Among Russia's initiatives are the creation of the Eurasian Academy of Film Arts, the establishment of the Eurasian Film Award, and the revival of the international song festival "Intervision." President Putin urged favorable responses from CIS partners for these proposals.
The meeting also emphasized continued collaboration in preserving historical memory, countering historical falsification, and commemorating the sacrifices made during the Great Patriotic War. Russia highlighted the significance of movements such as the "Immortal Regiment," "St. George Ribbon," and "Memory Train" in educating citizens, especially the youth, about their shared history.
A major focus of Russia's chairmanship will be the preservation and promotion of the Russian language. President Putin recalled the signing of the treaty establishing the International Russian Language Organization during the Bishkek summit on October 13. This organization, headquartered in Sochi, aims to protect and promote the Russian language within and beyond the CIS.
Humanitarian cooperation also extends to physical culture and sports, with Russia organizing events like the CIS Games and upcoming initiatives such as the "Games of the Future" in Kazan and the World Youth Festival in Sochi in March 2024.
President Putin concluded his message by congratulating the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan on his birthday, extending warm New Year wishes to all participants, and expressing anticipation for the upcoming meetings in St. Petersburg this month.
The meeting took place at Moscow's VDNH complex, symbolizing the shared cultural and modern life aspects of the participating countries. The international exhibition and forum "Russia" at VDNH were commended for enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds of friendship among CIS nations.
The stage is set for Russia's chairmanship to propel the Commonwealth into a new era of cultural collaboration and shared prosperity.
