Uzbekistan and Mongolia finalized air and road transport agreements and the potential for direct flights between the capitals will be investigated, as it was informed by Uzbekistan's presidential press service.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh of Mongolia addressed the media on the outcomes of their high-level negotiations on June 24.
Political and Diplomatic Relations
The visit marks the first in the history of bilateral relations, highlighting a mutual commitment to enhancing Uzbekistan-Mongolia ties. The opening of the Mongolian embassy in Tashkent is a vital step in diplomatic relations. President Mirziyoyev noted, “
Mongolia is a traditional and reliable partner for us in the Asian region. Uzbekistan-Mongolia relations are based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect, and support, and do not depend on the economic situation.”
Economic and Trade Cooperation
Discussions focused on expanding trade and industrial cooperation:
- Trade Expansion: Increasing the volume and variety of high-demand products.
- Industrial Cooperation: Projects in mining, livestock, meat processing, wool and leather processing, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.
- Preferential Trade Agreement: Drafting agreements to simplify market access.
Specific sectors for collaboration were identified, and agreements on mutual investment protection and taxation principles are being prepared.
Business and Investment
Business plans and ideas will be discussed in a meeting between the heads of state and business representatives from both countries. President Mirziyoyev remarked,
“The first state visit of the President of Mongolia to Uzbekistan was rightly historic and started a new stage of multilateral cooperation. I believe that we will soon see the first practical results of our great joint work.”
Active exchanges in culture, art, education, tourism, youth, and sports were agreed upon, including cultural days in Tashkent and Ulaanbaatar. Uzbekistan proposed resuming the education of Mongolian students in its higher education institutions.
The leaders agreed to cooperate on combating climate change and promoting traditional martial arts. Efforts will be made to increase tourist flows under the current visa-free regime.
A comprehensive "road map" will be prepared to ensure timely implementation of agreements. An Intergovernmental Commission meeting and a Business Council session will be held in Tashkent soon.
