On Wednesday (November 9), Tashkent held a ceremony of laying the first stone in constructing the Olympic Village facilities as Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent is set to host the Asian Youth Games (AYG) in 2025.
'We have our path, our aspirations, and plans. We believe that the historical work that we are doing today will yield great results. This confidence gives us strength', said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his welcoming remark. 'I am sure that the Olympic town will serve as a symbol of the high creative potential of our people and unprecedented achievements of Uzbek sport,' President added.
The project envisages creating an athletics and football stadium for 10,000 seats, six indoor and seven outdoor sports facilities, a palace of water sports, a cycling track, martial arts complexes, and many other facilities. After the sports event concludes, the village is set to host the Ministry of Sports Development offices, sports federations, and the academy. Besides, the complex will serve Uzbek citizens as a sports area.
Yicai Global reported that China's CAMC Engineering landed a contract worth $289mn to construct the key competition and service facilities for the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Uzbekistan.
