Turkmenistan is planning to host the Youth Forum of TÜRKSOY countries in October 2024, Turkmenportal reports, citing the country's Ministry of Culture.
"The planned event is aimed at strengthening cooperation between young scientists and artists of the Turkic world."
(Daryo - TÜRKSOY International Turkic Cultural Organisation was founded in 1993 by the ministries of culture of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey).
The Turkmen city of Anau has been designated as the 2024 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World.
In October next year, Turkmenistan will also host a Fair of Arts and Crafts of Turkic Peoples and a Theatre Festival of TURKSOY Countries. The Korkut Ata International Film Festival and a concert of artists from Turkic-speaking countries are planned for November.
According to some estimates, the total number of speakers of Turkic languages is currently around 120mn.
The speakers of these languages are concentrated in the CIS countries (Azerbaijanis, Turkmens, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, Kumyks, Karachais, Balkars, Chuvash, Tatars, Bashkirs, Nogais, Yakuts, Tuvinians, Khakass, Mountain Altaians, Gagauz) and beyond - in Turkey (Turks) and China (Uyghurs).
