Kyrgyzstan has returned 3.5 tons of pistachios exported from Uzbekistan after an inspection revealed violations of quarantine rules, 24.kg reported.

The Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine conducted control measures at the "Do'stlik" checkpoint on August 11.
Inspectors found that the pistachios did not meet Kyrgyzstan’s phytosanitary requirements, particularly due to the absence of mandatory packaging labels. As a result, the entire shipment was sent back to Uzbekistan.
The department noted that, on average, five to six cases of non-compliant hand luggage from Uzbek citizens are recorded daily. Between July and August 2025, 60 such cases were registered, and relevant acts were issued for all incidents. Officials urged strict adherence to phytosanitary standards to prevent the spread of pests and plant diseases.
This is not the first time Kyrgyzstan has returned Uzbek products for failing to meet quarantine regulations.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized Uzbek exporters for sending raw fruits abroad for higher profits, warning that this practice has led to widespread rejection of the produce and damaged Uzbekistan’s reputation in international markets.
