The Denov district of Surxondaryo region in Uzbekistan is implementing extensive measures to combat water shortages and enhance irrigation efficiency. In an effort to modernize water management infrastructure, 400 farms and members of local agricultural clusters are set to concretize 147 kilometers of internal irrigation networks during the autumn-winter season. Additionally, the district’s Water Supply Service Department plans to concretize 34 kilometers of canals.
A seminar held in Denov brought together farm leaders, cluster members, and water management specialists to discuss strategies for improving irrigation systems. The event emphasized the importance of accelerating the concreting process and mobilizing efforts to clean irrigation networks of silt and waste.
During the seminar, participants were given a practical demonstration of high-quality concreting techniques, including guidance on optimal coating thickness and accurate calculations to ensure long-term durability.
Tolqin Abdumurodov, Director of the district's Water Supply Service Department, highlighted the significant impact of these efforts. He noted that once the planned canals and networks are concretized, 1,500 hectares of cultivated land will benefit from improved irrigation, leading to the conservation of 12mn cubic meters of water annually.
Between 2025 and 2027, Denov district plans to collaborate with Chinese investors to further enhance its irrigation systems. Projects include the concreting of the Bulungur canal (12.7 km), Tojikon canal (11.6 km), Khairabad canal (23.5 km), and Denov Katta Arig canal (15.7 km). These initiatives are expected to boost water-use efficiency by 25%.
The seminar concluded with a call to action for planting fruit and ornamental trees along irrigation networks, stressing the district's commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
