Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), met on December 4 to solidify a joint "road map" for expanding multilateral cooperation in the peaceful development of nuclear technologies. This agreement sets the stage for deeper collaboration across various sectors.
Since joining the IAEA in 1994, Uzbekistan has successfully implemented over 40 joint projects with the agency’s technical support. Current initiatives focus on enhancing national structures, advancing nuclear science, and improving applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental management.
During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev praised the outcomes of the IAEA delegation’s discussions with Uzbekistan’s ministries, departments, and scientific institutions. He also commended the organization of an international conference on atomic energy, set to take place in Samarkand on December 5, with participation from leading global experts.
Priority areas for cooperation were outlined, including the development of nuclear energy, the application of nuclear technologies in agriculture and water management, and capacity-building for national agencies. The training of highly qualified personnel under IAEA programs was emphasized as a key component of this partnership.
