The Research Institute of Criminology of Uzbekistan has created an electronic bracelet and associated software for remote monitoring of individuals under house arrest or probation. This initiative was announced by the institute's head, Bakhtiyor Berdialiev.
The development is currently undergoing registration as intellectual property, with plans to commence production of the devices in the near future.
The use of electronic bracelets aligns with Uzbekistan’s probation law, signed in August 2024. The law outlines probation measures, including deprivation of certain rights, community service, corrective labor, and restricted freedom. Electronic monitoring serves as a tool for supervising individuals under probation.
Uzbekistan's Probation Service has been operational since January 1, 2019. Under its framework, conditionally sentenced individuals are supervised throughout their probation period. In 2020, the service announced plans to incorporate 3,000 electronic bracelets into its monitoring operations.
