Russia and Uzbekistan have agreed to bolster control over the protection of Uzbek labor migrants’ rights following the first meeting of their interdepartmental working group on labor migration and migrant rights.

The high-level meeting took place in Moscow on April 28–29 and was hosted by Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov. Uzbekistan was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Prosecutor General Shokhrukh Aminov, joined by officials from various ministries and government bodies.
On the Russian side, Deputy Prosecutor General Pyotr Gorodov led a team that brought together representatives from key institutions, including the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Federal Security Service, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs.
Officials from both countries reviewed current trends in labor migration, identified ongoing challenges, and agreed to implement joint measures to strengthen legal compliance and protect the rights of migrants.

In particular, the two sides pledged to enhance monitoring of the arrival and employment of Uzbek citizens in Russia, while also ensuring the rights of Russian citizens residing or working in Uzbekistan are respected.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint protocol outlining agreed steps, which will be independently monitored by both nations’ Prosecutor General’s Offices.
As part of the broader effort to regulate migration, Russia has extended the deadline for legalizing the status of foreign nationals until September 10, 2025. Authorities also proposed the deportation of migrants found to have acquired documents through bribery.
