The number of business entities operating in Uzbekistan has continued to decline, with a reduction of 27,105 enterprises over the past year, according to a report by the Statistics Committee.

As of April 2025, the total number of businesses in Uzbekistan stood at 377,571, down from 404,676 the previous year. Of these, 372,887 were classified as small businesses. This decline follows a similar trend observed in 2023 when the number of businesses decreased from 479,086 in April 2022 to 420,759 in April 2023.
The committee's analysis shows that Tashkent city currently has the highest number of operating businesses, with 89,915 entities. In contrast, the Syrdarya region has the lowest number, with only 9,241 businesses.
The trade sector remains the dominant industry, with 144,349 enterprises. Other notable sectors include industry (56,321 businesses), agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (31,738), and construction (27,840).
Additionally, there are 27,247 businesses in accommodation and catering services, 16,104 in transportation and storage, and 9,912 in information and communications.

Despite the overall decline, the number of foreign-invested enterprises in Uzbekistan has risen. As of the latest figures, there are 15,739 foreign-invested businesses, including 4,031 joint ventures and 11,708 foreign enterprises.
Over the past year, the number of such enterprises increased by 1,513, driven by growth in sectors such as trade, information and communications, and construction.
The trade sector saw a rise of 630 foreign-invested businesses, while the information and communications sector grew by 214, and construction increased by 190.
China leads the list of foreign investors, with 3,711 enterprises, representing 23.6% of all foreign-invested businesses in the country. Other key investors include Russia (19.3%), Turkey (12.3%), Kazakhstan (6.9%), and South Korea (4.2%).
