The government of Uzbekistan has defined the key responsibilities of the Agency for the Development of Agro-Industry under the Ministry of Agriculture, according to a newly adopted resolution.

The resolution approved the regulations governing the Agency’s operations and outlined a comprehensive list of tasks aimed at boosting the country's agricultural productivity and export potential. The main objectives include the implementation of targeted programs to support the sustainable development of intensive fruit growing, viticulture, and greenhouse farming.
The Agency is tasked with expanding areas of productive gardens and greenhouses by utilizing modern resource-saving technologies such as drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. It will also promote the use of scientific achievements and advanced innovations within the agricultural sector, along with measures to industrialize agricultural production.
Further responsibilities include planting crops between orchard rows to ensure effective land use, introducing a value-added chain under the "from field to fork" principle (also known as the "farm to fork”), and supporting the creation of national brands for fruits, grapes, and other produce varieties.
Additionally, the government approved a regulation on financing new orchards through commercial banks using the credit resources of the State Trust Fund for the Development and Support of Agro-Industry. The regulation sets the framework for allocating loans for establishing new orchards and vineyards, as well as for organizing modern sorting, packaging, and processing facilities for fruit and grape products.
About the Agency for the Development of Agro-Industry
The Agency for the Development of Agro-Industry was established by presidential decree on September 30, 2024. It has the authority to re-lease land plots allocated to it directly to business entities. In a move to accelerate investment, the Cabinet of Ministers has allowed the Agency or its selected business entities to lease reserved land plots without a competitive bidding process if the investment project is valued at less than $10mn. The regulations also permit land leases without prior deposit requirements, with a detailed list of plots to be specified in the lease agreements.
The establishment and clearly defined tasks of the Agency are expected to enhance the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector and contribute to the country’s broader economic growth goals.
