The CPI 2024 reveals that corruption continues to be a major issue globally, but there have been positive shifts in some regions.
In Central Asia, the rankings are as follows: Kazakhstan is ranked 88th, moving up 5 places; Kyrgyzstan dropped 5 places to 146th; Tajikistan fell by 2 places to 164th; and Turkmenistan improved by 5 places, ranking 165th.
The report highlights corruption as a critical barrier to progress, especially in addressing climate change. It undermines efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to the impacts of global warming. Moreover, corruption is seen as a major threat to democracy, stability, and human rights worldwide.

François Valerian, Chairman of Transparency International, emphasized the urgency of combating corruption:
“This is essential to countering authoritarianism and ensuring a peaceful, free, and stable world. The alarming trends identified in this year's Corruption Perceptions Index highlight the need to take concrete action now to combat global corruption.”
Notably, Uzbekistan has made incremental improvements in previous years. In 2021, the country rose six places compared to 2020, ranking 140th, while in 2020, it had improved by seven spots, securing 146th place.
