Trade between Uzbekistan and Japan grew by 35% in 2024, with a project portfolio exceeding $12bn, involving leading Japanese companies and financial institutions. Currently, around 100 joint ventures, including the Uzbekistan-Japan Center, operate successfully in the country.

On February 7, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a Japanese delegation led by Akihisa Nagashima, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, to discuss strengthening strategic cooperation.
During the meeting, Special Advisor Nagashima conveyed greetings and a personal letter from Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to President Mirziyoyev. The discussions covered key areas such as trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, education, and cultural exchanges, as well as regional cooperation.

Japan reaffirmed its commitment to Uzbekistan as a long-term strategic partner, emphasizing the importance of free and open international cooperation based on the rule of law. The Japanese government also highlighted the rapid development of bilateral relations, particularly in labor migration programs and financial-technical cooperation.
President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of continued high-level exchanges and mutual visits to enhance economic and investment collaboration, including initiatives under Japan’s Development Assistance Program. He also extended his best wishes for the successful hosting of the Expo World Exhibition in Osaka, set to open in April.
Additionally, both sides exchanged views on regional cooperation in preparation for the inaugural "Central Asia + Japan" summit, aimed at strengthening multilateral ties in the region.
