Uzbekistan and Russia are set to collaborate on a project focused on adapting the Uzbek economy to the impacts of water scarcity and climate change. This initiative was discussed during a meeting between Aziz Abduhakimov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, and Ekaterina Salugina-Sorokova, First Vice President of Gazprombank.

The two sides explored the prospects of joint scientific research aimed at creating effective strategies for the medium and long-term adaptation of Uzbekistan's economy to the evolving water and climate challenges. The project, which is slated for implementation in 2025-2026, also aims to contribute to the global green transformation.
The Russian delegation proposed organizing collaborative research to develop practical recommendations that would not only enhance the capacity of Uzbekistan’s expert centers but also strengthen scientific cooperation between the two nations. The focus will be on building economic and political analysis frameworks for addressing water and climate-related issues in Uzbekistan.
Minister Abduhakimov highlighted that this project could serve as a major platform for scientific research, technology exchange, and the development of expertise within Central Asia. A working group will be established, and a study visit to the Central Asian University for Environmental and Climate Change Studies ("Green University") will be organized to facilitate interaction with experts in water resources management.
The ultimate goal is to develop a comprehensive "Strategy for Adapting the Economy of Uzbekistan to Changing Water and Climate Conditions by 2050" based on the findings of the joint research.
In addition to this, both parties agreed to expand cooperation in 2025 by implementing further scientific projects and holding regular consultations within the framework of the "Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy." This collaboration aims to achieve mutually beneficial results and strengthen bilateral ties in the field of environmental protection.
