Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the UK, Ravshan Usmanov, met with Jerome Frost, Chairman of the Board of Arup, a leading British consortium renowned for its work in engineering and construction planning. Founded in London in 1946, Arup is the world’s largest engineering consortium, operating across more than 140 countries, with offices in 37 nations.

Arup is recognized for its high-tech engineering solutions and innovative designs, with landmark projects such as the Sydney Opera House, the Macmillan Cancer Centre, and the Yas Island Marina Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The consortium has also contributed to major developments like the Skolkovo technology park in Moscow and the Parkview Green FangCaoDi in Beijing.
Jerome Frost shared Arup's successful collaboration with Uzbekistan, citing over 30 completed projects with both private and public sector clients. Notable achievements include providing design and engineering services for the Samarkand Tourism Center, the Congress Hall and Hilton Hotel in the Tashkent City business district, and the National Library of Uzbekistan. The consortium has also been involved in various transport and energy infrastructure projects.
Frost confirmed that Arup is keen to expand its cooperation with Uzbekistan, particularly in the transport and energy sectors. The meeting concluded with an agreement to implement large-scale projects, further strengthening the relationship between the two nations in these critical areas.
Earlier, Uzbekistan announced plans to launch advanced training programs in the United Kingdom for civil servants responsible for foreign trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Total trade between the UK and Uzbekistan amounted to £332mn in the four quarters leading up to 3Q24, a decline of 23.9% or £104mn compared to the same period in 2023. UK exports to Uzbekistan dropped by 24.9% to £190mn, while imports from Uzbekistan decreased by 22.4% to £142mn.
Uzbekistan ranked as the UK's 121st largest trading partner, contributing less than 0.1% to total UK trade. In terms of foreign direct investment (FDI), data on the UK's outward FDI in Uzbekistan for 2023 was unavailable. However, the inward FDI from Uzbekistan to the UK in 2023 was £13mn, a slight decrease of £34,300 from 2022, making up less than 0.1% of the total UK inward FDI stock.
