The violation was uncovered during a joint inspection conducted by Uzenergoinspection and the Bukhara Regional Department of the Customs Committee. The shipment, weighing 115 tons, was falsely declared as "Bitumnaya mastika" (bituminous mastic) in customs documents while attempting to cross through the "Olot" border checkpoint in Bukhara region.
Following a chemical analysis by Uzenergoinspection's laboratory, it was confirmed that the cargo was, in fact, diesel fuel. Authorities have seized the shipment and initiated legal proceedings.
In a related development, law enforcement recently detained individuals engaged in the illegal sale of diesel fuel in two districts of Tashkent. Additionally, a resident of Fergana was found selling diesel fuel at his home in violation of technical regulations.
In December 2024, Kazakhstan dismantled a transnational criminal group smuggling petroleum products through a tunnel on the Uzbek-Kazakh border.
Investigations revealed that the group had built a 450-meter tunnel and smuggled 5 to 7 tons of fuel daily into Uzbekistan for about two months. A special operation identified all members, including Uzbekistani citizens, and Uzbekistan’s law enforcement conducted parallel actions in the border area.
