Uzbekistan imported 24,095 electric vehicles worth $224.8mn in 2024, according to the Statistics Agency. This marks an increase in electric vehicle adoption in the country. China was the leading exporter of electric cars to Uzbekistan, supplying 23,982 units.

Other countries contributed smaller numbers:
- Kazakhstan: 51 units
- Hong Kong: 17 units
- Germany: 15 units
- UAE: 13 units
- USA: 10 units
In addition, the government has announced an increase in the disposal fee for electric vehicles starting May 1, 2025:
- For EVs up to 3 years old: 120 times the minimum reference price (MRP), equivalent to UZS 45mn ($3,483).
- For EVs older than 3 years: 210 times the MRP, amounting to UZS 78.75mn ($6,095).
Uzbekistan has seen a 10-fold increase in EV imports over the past seven years. Since 2019, electric vehicles have been exempt from customs, excise, and motor vehicle taxes, further encouraging imports. In 2021, the government introduced "green" license plates for EVs.
According to the presidential decree of 2024, the production capacity of electric and hybrid cars in Uzbekistan will be gradually increased to 500,000 units per year .
On the other hand, the demand for gasoline-powered cars is declining, with imports dropping 28% in the first nine months of 2024.
In contrast, hybrid and electric car imports surged 49%, totaling 11,425 units this year.
According to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, 4,240 electric vehicles were sold in September 2024, up from 1,700 in August.
