President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim participated in a high-level Uzbekistan-Malaysia Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur as part of the Uzbek leader’s official visit. The forum brought together over 200 representatives from leading companies, financial institutions, and investment firms from both countries.

In his address, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of broad-based partnerships between Uzbek and Malaysian businesses, highlighting new opportunities for cooperation across key industries. He noted that agreements had been reached to launch a two-year period of innovative development in Uzbek-Malaysian relations, with a strong focus on economic collaboration.
The leaders announced a series of initiatives aimed at doubling bilateral trade, including the development of a preferential trade agreement, organization of mutual exhibitions and fairs, and the formation of an Industrial Cooperation Program. Despite the geographical distance, transport and logistics connectivity between Uzbekistan and Malaysia continues to improve, with frequent direct flights linking the capitals.

President Mirziyoyev outlined several priority sectors for future collaboration, positioning Malaysia as an important innovative and technological partner of Uzbekistan. These include:
- Electronics and Semiconductors – Long-term partnerships in high-tech industries, including artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and data centers.
- Gas-Chemical and Green Energy – Development of strategic projects in polymer production, "green" hydrogen, and ammonia manufacturing.
- Construction and Infrastructure – Opportunities for Malaysian firms to invest in innovative and eco-friendly building materials.
- Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals – Establishment of modern clinics and production of pharmaceutical products based on Malaysia’s expertise.
- Agriculture and Food Security – Implementation of smart farming technologies and expansion of halal-certified organic production.
- Financial and Banking Sectors – Malaysian banks and investors were invited to participate in Uzbekistan’s privatization efforts, particularly in telecommunications, energy, and finance.

A major announcement at the forum was the creation of a special economic zone in the Tashkent region, which will be managed by a Malaysian company. This initiative aims to attract foreign investment and enhance industrial collaboration.
President Mirziyoyev expressed satisfaction with the growing interest from Malaysian businesses in the Uzbek market and their willingness to share technology and expertise. To further strengthen economic ties, he proposed holding the next Uzbekistan-Malaysia Business Forum in Tashkent this fall.
With these initiatives, Uzbekistan and Malaysia are set to elevate their economic partnership to a strategic level, paving the way for sustainable growth and innovation-driven cooperation.
“Our goal is to elevate relations to the level of strategic partnership," the President Mirziyoyev voiced.
