To incentivize residents to charge their electric cars at home, Uzbekistan is implementing a night tariff. This tariff will provide lower rates for EV charging during off-peak hours, encouraging nighttime charging and helping to balance the electrical grid's load.
Uzbekistan has witnessed an increase in the number of electric cars, which have grown tenfold over the past three years, reaching a total of 35,000 vehicles, as highlighted in a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on June 10.
This initiative aims to enhance the country's automotive industry and meet the growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly vehicles. The introduction of local production is expected to support the economy and increase the availability of electric cars for the Uzbek population.
In addition to home charging solutions, Uzbekistan is expanding its public charging infrastructure. It will be possible to install charging stations of up to 22 kilowatts in public areas such as streets and around apartment buildings, and up to 7 kilowatts within individual apartments.
The government is also planning to install charging stations in strategic locations, including parking lots of state organizations, shopping centers, hotels, and recreation centers.
