President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan received Wang Chuanfu, the president of BYD Company on June 26, during his visit to the Jizzakh region.
The initial phase of this project has seen investments amounting to $160mn, resulting in the creation of 1,200 jobs. The factory, which commenced operations with the rollout of its first electric car, boasts high-tech production capabilities, including advanced welding, painting, and assembly processes.
President Mirziyoyev expressed great satisfaction with the progress made so far and underscored the importance of expanding the range of models produced. He emphasized the goal of increasing the factory’s production capacity to 500,000 units per year in the near future. This expansion is expected to solidify Uzbekistan’s position as a key player in the Central Asian automotive market.
The meeting also focused on the localization of components and spare parts, which is crucial for reducing production costs and enhancing the competitiveness of Uzbek-made vehicles. Both parties discussed strategies for exporting cars to neighboring Central Asian countries and the broader CIS region, aiming to tap into these growing markets.
In addition to vehicle production, BYD's plans to contribute to Uzbekistan’s green transport development were enthusiastically supported by President Mirziyoyev. These plans include the establishment of a joint innovation research center, the training of skilled personnel, and the development of technical regulations and standards for electric transport. Furthermore, BYD intends to produce "Blade" generation batteries and BYD electric buses in Uzbekistan, fostering the growth of sustainable transport solutions in the country.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening their cooperation and ensuring the success of the joint ventures.
