In a move towards advancing sustainable transportation, a cooperation agreement was formalized between the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy in Uzbekistan and China's Henan Suda Company. The agreement, signed during a meeting held on December 15-16, focuses on the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging devices and related technologies within Uzbekistan, the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reported.
Discussions revolved around the project to construct EV charging infrastructure throughout Uzbekistan, aiming to accommodate the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the country. As a result of this collaboration, the agreement outlines plans for the construction of over 70 centralized and 50,000 decentralized charging stations across 14 regions by 2033.
The cooperation agreement signifies a strategic commitment to energy-saving technologies and further propels Uzbekistan into the realm of sustainable transportation. It is projected that more than 700,000 electric vehicles will be serviced by these charging stations, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to embrace eco-friendly transportation solutions.
China's Dominance in Uzbekistan's EV Market
China has emerged as a dominant force in Uzbekistan's electric vehicle import landscape, showcasing a remarkable commitment to electric mobility and robust manufacturing capabilities. China has supplied 6,898 electric cars to Uzbekistan within seven months, solidifying its status as the primary contributor to the nation's EV market.
The burgeoning interest in electric vehicles in Uzbekistan has led to a substantial growth trajectory in imports. Between January and July 2023, Uzbekistan imported a total of 7,391 electric cars, with a combined value of $217.1mn. This surge represents a six-fold increase compared to the same period in the previous year, underlining the nation's rapid transition towards sustainable transportation.
While China maintains a significant share of electric car imports, other nations also contribute to the diversification of Uzbekistan's eco-friendly vehicle fleet. The import breakdown for the first seven months of 2023 includes 376 electric cars from Hong Kong, 64 from Germany, 18 from Korea, 16 from the UAE, and 11 from the USA.
