A $75mn waste processing plant will be constructed in Yangiyul, Uzbekistan, under an agreement with Chinese company Beijing China Sciences Runyu Environmental Technology. The plant’s development is expected to improve waste management in the region, according to the Tashkent regional khokimiyat (city administration).
The technical and economic foundation for the project has already been laid, with a dedicated working group in place. Both Uzbek and Chinese officials have confirmed the start of construction and installation work. As part of the project, 100 specialized waste transportation vehicles will also be provided.
The new facility will serve not only Yangiyul but also five neighboring districts: Kuyichirchik, Akkurgan, Chinaz, and Yangiyul. Over 250 new jobs are anticipated, contributing to the economic growth of the area.
Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, recently presented a report to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, detailing Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts in waste management.
The report highlighted the establishment of waste processing and disposal clusters starting in 2017. However, of the nine enterprises initiated, only three are fully operational, with the remaining six struggling due to issues such as consumer debt, which has resulted in their bankruptcy.
