Per the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has dispatched humanitarian aid and the "Health" train to assist the population of Afghanistan, according to the Surkhandarya regional administration.
The aid package includes essential food items, medicines, and access to free medical examinations conducted by Uzbek doctors. This initiative reflects Uzbekistan's ongoing commitment to supporting the Afghan people during challenging times.
The "Health" train, consisting of nine wagons, will operate in Balkh province from December 25 to 30. A team of qualified medical professionals will provide free health check-ups and other essential medical services to Afghan residents.
This assistance was organized following a request during recent intergovernmental meetings between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. It aims to address urgent healthcare needs in the region.
Earlier in April, a delegation led by Surkhandarya region governor Ulugbek Kasimov delivered humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which included over 185 tons of food supplies. Uzbekistan had also extended support in 2022 to help those affected by an earthquake in Afghanistan, showcasing the nation's consistent humanitarian efforts.
In 11M24, Afghanistan ranked 9th among the top 10 countries with the largest share of foreign trade with Uzbekistan. Trade turnover between the two countries totaled $999.9mn, with exports amounting to $969.4mn and imports reaching $30.5mn.
