FAW, a major Chinese automaker, is set to build a $100mn truck manufacturing plant in Andijan, Uzbekistan, according to the regional khokimiyat’s press service. Following successful discussions with local officials, the delegation visited the Ipak Yuli free economic zone, where the facility will be constructed.
The plant is expected to produce 10,000 FAW trucks annually, with construction slated to begin in November. The investment stresses growing cooperation between China and Uzbekistan in the automotive sector.
In addition to the truck plant, the administration reviewed plans for the establishment of an air conditioning and air purifier manufacturing facility under the NAWAS brand in the same economic zone.
This new venture follows the opening of a FAW truck workshop in Andijan's industrial hub in September 2023, a project that involved a $15mn investment in collaboration with UzAuto Trailer and Vodiy Universal Majmua.
Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with China reached $9.03bn in the first nine months of 2024, making China the country's largest trading partner during this period. This figure reflects a decrease of about 4.44%, or approximately $420mn, compared to the $9.45bn reported in 2023.
