The Iranian Red Crescent Society plans to launch new medical centers in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as confirmed by an IRCS official. This initiative is expected to promote the country's health diplomacy and humanitarian activities in Central Asia.
The IRCS manages various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, polyclinics, hemodialysis, and rehabilitation centers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These centers operate on a self-governed basis, with funding provided by medical service costs and aid from philanthropists.
The Health Minister, Bahram Einollahi, believes that health diplomacy can foster more profound relations between regional countries. He emphasized the common issues for cooperation in the health sector between countries.
The government's strategy is strengthening foreign policy, especially with neighboring countries. In April, several countries in the region sought Iran's assistance with health-related issues.
Iran hosted the 26th G5 High-Level Experts Meeting on Health Cooperation and the 1st Healthcare Leadership and Governance Training Program in May. The G5 countries, comprising Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and the World Health Organization, participated in the meeting, focused on "Joint Work for Solving Joint Health Problems."
Health Minister Einollahi referred to the unity and cooperation of countries in health, treatment, and medical education as a historical necessity. He stressed that achieving, maintaining, and promoting health requires countries' collaboration, particularly neighboring countries.
Iran pioneered the establishment of the G5 in 2005 to promote subregional cooperation in health and provide technical support for its improvement. The World Health Organization director for Eastern Mediterranean Region, Ahmed al-Mandhari, opined that Iran is a role model for primary health care. Its PHC network has aimed to ensure people have timely access to affordable, accessible, and acceptable essential health services for the past four decades.
The WHO representative to Iran, Jaffar Hussain, stated in October 2021 that Iran's health system could serve as a model for other countries in the region, particularly in the health sector and the utilization of valuable healthcare providers.
The national budget bill for the current Iranian calendar year 1402 has allocated a 29% increase in the health sector's budget compared to the previous year's budget.
