Trade relations between Kazakhstan and Belarus have been thriving, with bilateral trade reaching $600mn in the first eight months of this year. This was revealed during a meeting in Minsk between Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko. Parties focused on deepening economic ties and advancing cultural initiatives, emphasizing the implementation of agreements outlined at the presidential level.
Two nations are exploring collaboration across various key sectors, including industrial cooperation, agriculture, construction, transport, IT, and tourism. These efforts aim to not only enhance trade but also foster long-term partnerships that support innovation and growth in both countries.
Kazakhstan's flour products, comprising 10.2% of its exports to Belarus, are in high demand. Road transport cooperation has also seen growth, with freight volumes increasing by 19% in the first nine months of the year, totaling 450,600 tonnes.
The two governments are actively advancing industrial projects, with a portfolio of 14 joint ventures worth $277.5mn and creating 1,800 jobs. Currently, 11 projects valued at over $200mn have been completed in Kazakhstan, resulting in 1,600 new jobs. These ventures include assembling tractors, grain harvesters, and agricultural machinery. Three additional projects are under development. Kazakhstan is also exploring opportunities to export railway components to Belarus, including sleeper fasteners, railway wheels, and related assemblies.
A significant outcome of the talks was the signing of several bilateral agreements. The Roadmap for 2025-2029 aims to enhance trade and economic cooperation, expand joint projects, and strengthen ties between business communities. The tourism cooperation agreement between NC Kazakh Tourism and Belarus’s National Agency for Tourism will focus on developing ecological, skiing, rural, medical, and children’s tourism. Additionally, a cultural and humanitarian interaction plan was signed to outline collaborative activities in cultural exchanges and humanitarian initiatives.
As part of the visit, Olzhas Bektenov toured Minsk's Hi-Tech Park, where he reviewed ongoing digital projects in cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and financial services.
