Tajikistan’s flagship airline, Somon Air, has announced the launch of regular flights from Dushanbe to Doha, Qatar, marking an expansion in its Middle Eastern network.
Starting November 28, the weekly flights between the capitals of Tajikistan and Qatar will be operated in partnership with local online travel agency Fly.tj. The services will be conducted using Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft.
Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air, highlighted the importance of this new route, stating, “This regular flight opens new opportunities in air travel and tourism. Currently, there is a visa-free regime between the Republic of Tajikistan and Qatar for citizens of both countries, and I am confident that Doha will be a real discovery for travel lovers.”
Qatar now joins Dubai, UAE, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as the third Middle Eastern destination for Somon Air, further expanding the airline's regional presence. The carrier already connects Tajikistan to a wide range of international destinations, including China, Germany, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
Somon Air’s fleet consists of six aircraft, including four Boeing 737-800s and two 737-900s. In 2023, the airline carried over 787,000 passengers, marking a 17% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, demonstrating its growing role in regional and international air travel.
The new service to Doha is expected to boost tourism and business connections between the two countries, with the potential to foster stronger bilateral ties.
