Over 6.1 mn foreign nationals are currently present in Russia, with approximately 9% classified as illegal migrants, as stated by Alexander Gorovoy, the First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The majority of these illegal migrants are citizens from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, totalling around 739,000 individuals. Among the total foreign population, approximately 5.5 mn individuals originate from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, and Turkmenistan.
To enhance migration management, Russia plans to establish an electronic registry of controlled individuals by 2025. This system will include detailed data on illegal labour migrants, aiming to improve monitoring and enforcement efforts.
