As part of the ongoing BRICS summit, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan engaged in discussions with key global leaders, aiming to enhance Uzbekistan’s multilateral partnerships.
In a meeting, President Mirziyoyev welcomed Dilma Rousseff, the president of the New Development Bank. They explored avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation with this prestigious multilateral financial institution, highlighting promising areas such as education and technological development, social sphere support, modernization of industry, infrastructure and logistics, digitization, and energy networks. The leaders agreed to form a joint expert group to draft concrete projects for collaboration.
President Mirziyoyev also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Their discussions focused on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkey. Both leaders stressed the importance of expanding cooperation across various sectors, including political, trade-economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian realms. They emphasized the necessity of ongoing dialogues and effective exchanges, particularly in geology, mining, electrical engineering, healthcare, and education. The leaders committed to hosting regular joint cultural and humanitarian events and exchanged insights on international and regional issues.
During the summit, President Mirziyoyev participated in the ceremony welcoming the leaders of delegations attending the event. Russian President Vladimir Putin officially greeted him at the "Kazan Expo" international exhibition center, attended by heads of state, government representatives, and officials from various international and regional organizations. Following the ceremony, a reception was held to foster further diplomatic engagement.
In a separate meeting with German Gref, President and Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, President Mirziyoyev discussed expanding cooperation in digital technologies, innovations, and education. They expressed satisfaction over the launch of the second campus of "Maktab 21" in Tashkent, dedicated to training highly qualified specialists in digital technologies. The discussion also covered collaborative projects aimed at implementing effective digital solutions within the banking sector and city infrastructure.
Looking ahead, President Mirziyoyev is scheduled to deliver a speech at the plenary session of the BRICS summit on October 24, 2024, in the "BRICS+" format, where he will further outline Uzbekistan’s vision for cooperation within this influential group of nations.
