More than 80 government officials and international partners gathered this week in Tashkent for the third meeting of the Uzbekistan Country Platform. The event provided a forum to review the progress achieved by three key Working Groups focused on critical areas of Uzbekistan’s development: water resources and supply, sanitation, transport, and urban and rural development.
The Water Resources, Water Supply, and Sanitation Working Group highlighted its success in promoting integrated water resource management and shared its ongoing plans to ensure safe and sufficient access to drinking water and sanitation services across the country. These efforts are crucial for improving public health and ensuring health security.
The Transport Working Group showcased advancements in delivering safe, high-quality transport services nationwide. Discussions centered on transitioning to environmentally friendly modes of transport and the ongoing construction of infrastructure meeting international standards. Participants also emphasized the significance of the recently approved Railroad Transportation Law, a key milestone for Uzbekistan's transportation reforms.
The Urban and Rural Development Working Group shared updates on recent reforms, including the adoption of a new Urban Planning Code and the development of urban and rural settlement planning documents. These efforts aim to enhance both urban and rural infrastructure, aligning with Uzbekistan's long-term development goals.
Chaired by the Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Country Platform unites key stakeholders to ensure technical and financial resources are effectively allocated towards achieving the objectives of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy.
Abdulla Abdukadirov, First Deputy Director of the Agency for Strategic Reforms, stressed the importance of cooperation between development partners and the government, stating, "Effective collaboration is essential for realizing the reform priorities set by President Mirziyoyev, aimed at building a prosperous and sustainable future for Uzbekistan."
The European Union (EU), serving as the lead international partner providing secretarial support to the Country Platform until the end of 2025, also played a central role in the discussions. Toivo Klaar, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, emphasized the EU's contributions, which include technical assistance, grants, and support for advancing the government's ambitious reform agenda.
Participants agreed to continue working through 13 sectoral working groups that address priorities such as agriculture, energy security, and the rule of law. The aim is to advance reforms that directly benefit the people of Uzbekistan, ensuring progress toward the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy.
