Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin convened in the city of Kazan upon Mirziyoyev's arrival on February 21 to discuss the joint development of transport corridors, the president's press service reports.
President Mirziyoyev extended warm congratulations to President Putin on the successful organization of the inaugural international competition "Future Games," blending traditional and virtual sports. The event's innovative approach underscores the dynamism of contemporary sporting initiatives.
Joint Development of Transport Corridors
Transport infrastructure development and cooperation in railway transport were key topics of discussion. Both leaders explored opportunities for joint development of transport corridors, aiming to enhance connectivity and facilitate efficient movement of goods and people between Uzbekistan and Russia.
The leaders exchanged views on regional priorities and reviewed plans for future international events. The dialogue underscored the shared commitment to addressing regional challenges and fostering cooperation on multilateral platforms.
Strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the ongoing implementation of agreements forged during President Mirziyoyev's visit to Moscow in October 2023. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the steady reinforcement of the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance relations between Uzbekistan and Russia.
President Mirziyoyev and President Putin commended the productive outcomes of various bilateral engagements in 2023, including meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, regional forums, educational and medical exchanges, as well as cultural events. They particularly noted the positive momentum in trade relations and the advancement of joint projects across diverse sectors such as industry, energy, transport, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals.
Focus on Regional Cooperation
Special emphasis was placed on fostering collaboration between regions. The successful operation of industrial technology parks in Tashkent and Jizzakh regions was highlighted, along with the establishment of new innovation parks like "Alabuga" and "Master" in Bukhara and Navoi regions, respectively.
Earlier, it was reported that Uztransgaz, the operator of Uzbekistan's gas transportation system, is set to embark on a significant modernization initiative aimed at enhancing the country's gas imports from Russia.
