President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in solemn ceremonies in Moscow marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II, following an official invitation from the Russian Federation.

The Victory Parade was held on Red Square and attended by leaders from around the world, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and presidents from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Cuba, and Venezuela, among others.
The historic anniversary paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of millions who contributed to defeating fascism. Uzbekistan made a profound contribution to the war effort. From a population of just over 6mn at the time, nearly 2mn Uzbeks were sent to the front. Over 538,000 died in battle, while more than 158,000 were declared missing.

Uzbekistan’s soldiers and officers were widely recognized for their bravery—over 214,000 received state awards, with 301 honored as Heroes of the Soviet Union and 70 receiving all degrees of the Order of Glory.
Beyond the battlefield, Uzbekistan played a vital role in supporting the front. The republic hosted over 170 evacuated enterprises, supplied food, medicine, clothing, and arms, and took in more than 1.5mn evacuees, including 250,000 children orphaned by the war. The nation’s humanitarianism and resilience during the war years continue to be praised internationally.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to honoring the memory of wartime sacrifices. He highlighted the importance of Victory Park in Tashkent, a national memorial dedicated to those who fought and contributed to victory both on the front lines and on the home front.
Following the parade, President Mirziyoyev, along with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other dignitaries, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden. The solemn tribute honored all those who gave their lives, including thousands from Uzbekistan.
The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence and a ceremonial march by the honor guard and military band.
